Chapter 794: 398: The Angsa People's Plea for Peace

Chapter 794: Chapter 398: The Angsa People’s Plea for Peace

“Mr. President, why don’t you just tell us what it will take for you to help us knock down this bill?”

Seeing that even such an offer was not accepted by Payden, Augustine’s tone became somewhat impatient.

Payden replied indifferently, “It’s still the same, as long as you can deal with David, so he won’t manipulate the media to attack me anymore, then this matter will naturally be easily resolved. If you can’t handle him, then I really have no choice…”

Augustine was choked by these words. If they could deal with David, would they still need to spend so much effort in the House of Representatives, the Senate, and even on the President himself?

It seemed they had fallen into a vicious cycle again!

“Sir…”

“…”

In order to sway Payden to a change of heart, the three men took turns trying to persuade him in the time that followed.

But no matter how much they pled or how much pressure they applied, Payden remained unmoved, acting as if he too had no choice. In the end, he even politely issued an eviction order to the three men.

Having no other option, the three men could only resign themselves to the situation, rise from their seats, and then leave the White House.

That afternoon, as David was dealing with follow-up matters in his office, Kepel knocked on the door and entered, saying, “Chief Inspector, there’s a Mr. Reze outside who would like to see you.”

“Reze…”

David was somewhat surprised but quickly seemed to think of something, then responded, “Let him come in then.”

“Okay.”

Shortly after, Reze was brought in. Upon seeing David, he revealed a friendly smile, as if meeting a good friend, and said, “Inspector David, it’s been a long time. How have you been?”

“Everything is fine. As for Mr. Reze, I’m curious what wind has blown you to our Internal Revenue Service?”

Reze internally cursed upon hearing this, thinking, ‘You damn well know why I’m here, aren’t you just feigning ignorance?’

Although he cursed internally, Reze still replied nonchalantly, “Chief Inspector David, as your former friend, and since we both find ourselves in Washington D.C., I came to chat with you, my old friend. You wouldn’t turn me away, would you?”

“Of course, you’re welcome!”

“That’s good…”

In the time that followed, Reze started to reminisce with David about their previous collaborations, such as supporting the W bill, assisting in his rise to power, and the various details in dealing with Freemasonry, clearly trying to rekindle their former relationship.

Reze was doing this out of necessity.

The offshore tax evasion bill had already passed through the Senate and House of Representatives, and they had recently visited the White House as well. Payden was under so much pressure that there were signs he might retract the bill for signing.

If that bill were signed into law and came into effect, it would deal a severe blow to the Freemasonry Group, although they still had the golden goose— the Federal Reserve— under their control.

However, the Ansa Group did not have a ‘Blood Replenishment Capsule’ like the Federal Reserve.

So if the bill came into effect, weakening their strength, who could guarantee that the Freemasonry Group, who now seemed to be allies on the same front, wouldn’t take the opportunity to further erode their influence?

After all, before David had emerged, the relationship between Freemasonry and the Ansa Group was far from harmonious—they were on the brink of full-scale warfare, needing only a spark to set them off.

There are no eternal friends, only eternal interests—this saying is an eternal truth in the real world!

Seeking reconciliation with David was an embarrassing move for the Ansa Group, but if it could help salvage the current situation, it was absolutely worth it!

“Ah, I too miss the days of our collaboration when with your help, everything I did became much easier…”

David also showed a nostalgic expression.

“But speaking of which, Chief Inspector David, we did have some minor disagreements in the past, but those can be resolved, can’t they? In the days to come, we might become friends again, don’t you think?”

“Mr. Reze, you might as well speak plainly.”

“You know, in our America, who would you say has dodged taxes the most?”

“Who?”

“The Federal Reserve!”

“The Federal Reserve?”

“Yes, the Federal Reserve was established in 1913. Since its inception, it has taken over America’s currency and has grown into a financial monster capable of influencing the entire world over a hundred years. Interestingly though, due to its financial status, it has become almost like an emperor over us in America. Let alone ordinary law enforcement, even the powerful Internal Revenue Service has not dared to touch this institution for years, have they?”

David offered no rebuttal to these words.

That’s right. Since its establishment, the Federal Reserve had never paid a penny of taxes to the Internal Revenue Service—a fact well known by everyone there.

Of course, this didn’t mean that the Internal Revenue Service hadn’t thought about taking on the Federal Reserve over the years.

According to their historical archives, back in the 1960s, one of the Tax Bureau chiefs had the idea to target the Federal Reserve.

This director even went as far as to share the plan with President Kennedy, who strongly approved after hearing it.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

With the support of the Internal Revenue Service, President Kennedy immediately initiated the plan to nationalize the Federal Reserve.
