Chapter 190: Rong Fan
After the meal was more or less finished, they opened the private room and walked out.
At the end of the hallway stood a man, head down playing with his phone. Hearing the commotion, he casually looked up.
But the moment he saw Yu Li’s face, his hand jerked, and he blinked hard, afraid he was seeing an illusion.
Wu Bei had been pushed out by Cen Xiu and the others. They insisted he had to see Yu Li’s face for himself. Unable to resist their collective pressure, he had no choice but to come out.
And so he stood there waiting for the others to come out.
He’d thought, how similar could she possibly look? He’d played through so many instances, seen all kinds of crazy stuff—just looking alike wasn’t that big of a deal.
But the moment he saw the man and woman walking down the hallway, Wu Bei suddenly felt… another ridiculous experience was about to be added to his list.
He frowned and stared at Yu Li’s face, then shifted his gaze to Bo Jingmo beside her.
He knew Bo Jingmo. But the girl next to him… how could she look so much like Lina from the instance?
Wu Bei suddenly understood what those people had meant. If it was just one coincidence—meeting someone who resembled an NPC—that might really be pure chance.
But the current situation was that this person had appeared in multiple instances, and had connections with all of them.
And… did Bo Jingmo not find that strange at all?
When she saw Wu Bei, Yu Li’s expression didn’t change. She simply glanced up casually, then withdrew her gaze.
Bo Jingmo, on the other hand, didn’t spare Wu Bei a single look from beginning to end, brushing past him as he walked out.
That attitude—he really acted like he didn’t know Wu Bei.
After they left, Cen Xiu slowly stepped out from the corner and patted Wu Bei on the shoulder.
“Well? Wu-ge?”
Wu Bei turned his head, an odd expression on his face. He nodded, “Yeah, it’s a little weird.”
He glanced down at his phone. “I’ll go back and talk to the others.”
Cen Xiu had been thinking the same thing. He rubbed his chin and speculated, “Hey, do you think someone can actually become an NPC? That’s wild.”
“No idea. I didn’t sense any System presence on that girl. Could be coincidence, or maybe something new,”
Saying that, Wu Bei also packed up and headed out. “Still have team stuff to handle. I’m leaving.”
Then as if he remembered something halfway, he turned back and added, “Oh yeah, that Jiang Xi you brought—she seems pretty good. I’ll let the higher-ups know about her when I get back.”
Cen Xiu froze, then laughed, “Alright. So if I helped recruit someone for the organization, do I get some kind of reward or what?”
Wu Bei snorted and laughed, “Try hitting ten stars first. Even that newcomer’s about to pass you. If she clears the next promotion instance, I think she’ll break into ten stars.”
“That fast?” Cen Xiu was shocked. He’d been stuck grinding newbie instances forever and only just hit the level where the shop opened.
“She gets first or second every time—of course she levels up fast. What, you think everyone’s like you, barely scraping by at the bottom?”
Hearing Wu Bei roast him without mercy, Cen Xiu’s face darkened. He scoffed, “Tch. Well, I am the most popular guy in the newbie instances. If it weren’t for me, would peace have even found such a promising new player?”
“Yeah, yeah. All thanks to our Young Master Cen.”
Wu Bei replied perfunctorily and waved his hand. “Seriously though, I’m off. Be sure to tell Jiang Xi the key points about the mid-tier instance.”
“Got it.”
Watching Wu Bei’s departing back, Cen Xiu’s expression gradually settled. He let out a long breath.
“Things are moving fast, huh…”
In the blink of an eye, the rookies from back then were all becoming mid-tier players.
And him…
Still spinning in circles in these dumb newbie instances.

…
For the next few days, Yu Li and Bo Jingmo didn’t enter any new instances.
She went to ask Mu Chengsi, who told her it might be because Bo Jingmo was about to enter a promotion instance—that is, the most crucial one that transitions a newbie player to a mid-tier player.
Instances like these are usually harder, with a much higher chance of death. So the system gives players some time to rest before sending them in.
But speaking of that, Mu Chengsi also brought up Rong Fan.
While eating lunch in the cafeteria, she told Yu Li, “Rong Fan will be entering the next instance too. I think he’s coming because of Bo Jingmo. He’s not like us—he’s a high-level player.”
“Rong Fan?”
Yu Li raised a brow slightly. “Is he… that strong?”
Hearing that, Mu Chengsi immediately showed a are you serious kind of face.
“Anyone labeled a high-level player—what do you think?”
She added with concern, “I know you’re strong too, but Rong Fan is on a different level. He’s coming in this time specifically for Bo Jingmo. So you and Bo Jingmo shouldn’t make your relationship too obvious. If they start investigating his connections, your face is definitely going to get spotted. Better hide it.”
Yu Li put down her chopsticks and leaned back in her chair, falling into thought.
What Mu Chengsi said made sense. But for deva to actually send a high-level player—it meant they were really desperate.
Bo Jingmo was just a low-tier player. Was it really necessary to go this far?
Yu Li knew it was only a matter of time before she got exposed.
She could still bluff her way past people in lower-tier instances, but the higher up she went, the harder that would be.
So if she wanted people to separate the Yu Li in the real world from the NPCs in the instances… she couldn’t keep using the same face.
Her fingertip tapped lightly on the table. Suddenly, she spoke, “A high-level player coming to a low-tier instance—won’t the system care? Isn’t that breaking the rules?”
“Maybe he used an item to bypass it,” Mu Chengsi replied casually. “No one knows ahead of time who’s entering the instance. Once inside, everyone’s hoping to run into a top player. If they see a badass high-tier player, they’ll be thrilled.”
Yu Li raised an eyebrow but didn’t say more, instead switching topics, “How many points do you get for clearing a mid-tier instance?”
Mu Chengsi paused, then thought carefully. “It’s okay, I guess. If you place first, you get about 1000 points. It goes down from there. But if you perform well, achieve certain milestones, or the audience really loves you and tips you extra, your points can keep going up.”
“…1000?” Yu Li’s movement paused. “That little? Can you even buy anything with that?”
She remembered that even a single item in the shop was easily over ten thousand.
Mu Chengsi looked at her in surprise, “Items? You’re still thinking of buying items? None of us buy those—we’d rather save up to buy a resurrection card.”
Yu Li: “……”
No wonder that resurrection card was a bestseller.
Probably because it’s the only thing people actually buy.
What do you think?
