Stab!
With his strongest skill, Killic managed to drive his blade into Garan's stomach.
Fortunately, the blow was partially absorbed by his defense equipment, but not completely—a part of it still came through. The impact shook him a bit and he knew that his equipment was already compromised.
In a blink, both moved.
Killic pushed his weight to add penetrating force to stab deeper into Garan's body, while Garan took out another set of his wife's protection charms.
Clank!
Killic did not expect that his blade wouldn't go deeper at all, and Garan took advantage of this momentary distraction to temporarily take back his weapon and he extended both hands—one on Killic's shoulder and another on his head—and summoned sharp metallic ice spikes originating from his palms.
Crack!
Killic's instincts flared and managed to avoid the one directed at his head, but it was too late for his shoulders. His eyes twitched when his armor showed cracks and he immediately felt even more annoyed.
Pol wasn't idle during all this, of course, and the moment Garan tried to stab Killic, he already summoned his [Flamethrower] in his direction, hitting Garan directly.
The direct attack destroyed another one of the charms, but it bought Garan enough time to add a space between him and his enemy.
Seeing him relatively unharmed irked the two men very much. How much defense equipment did this bastard have, anyway?
What they didn't know was that Althea filled a good portion of his space with protection charms. Her charms could only handle one or two attacks from people of this level, after all, so she had to make up for it with numbers.
That said, every time one broke, it broke Garan's heart even more. Each one was his wife's hard work full of love, after all, how could he be comfortable using them up?
The two enemies did not give him a breather; however, they immediately lunged at him. His Superior Class C blade appeared in a sliding motion, blocking Killic's attack while a thin ice wall appeared to block Pol's, which quickly shattered under his force.
Garan did not waste the shattered glass which once again formed rotating spikes around him. He stepped back into the enemy mob when the two enemies lunged at him again, using this time to drink another mana potion while manifesting metal which the ice promptly attached to.
It had to be noted that he only used his spikes to surround him, pushing the enemies back as he moved. This was to save energy because he knew he'd need everything against the enemy's two powerhouses.
There was a risk to this. The enemy could do the smart choice and ignore him, opting to lunge towards the wall and create the long-awaited breach now that he was out of the way.
However, as he stepped back, Garan also sent a number of shrapnels in the two's direction. Because their defense equipment were also compromised, he had begun to cause more damage to them, taunting them.
As expected, the two enemies barreled through their own mobs to follow after him, not caring if they injured their own people. At the same time, Garan's sharpened attacks targeted the two more and more.
Killic managed to avoid most of them, but Pol felt a deep gash in his arm and cursed. His fire blazed with flames in defense, not caring if he burned any of his own people, and he lunged to where Garan stood.
Killic also jumped up with his blade above him, using his own weight and momentum to create a strong attack that created a small crater to where Garan was.
Both of them missed, though just barely.
At the same time, Garan's ice shards moved faster around him, hitting a lot of enemy mobs as well.
The three's fight eventually created another vacuum around them but, this time, they were deeper into the enemy mobs.
Pol tried to call Terran slaves in front of him. They learned these people had a soft spot for them, avoiding lethal attacks as needed.
However, Garan saw his movements and immediately threw ice on his face. Whenever he tried to speak, Garan would target his face, which was incredibly annoying!
Of course, this meant that it was easier for him to defend because he knew where the next attack likely would be. But still!
"ARGHHH!" Pol screamed, creating a fire wall in front of him, creating an unnecessarily strong fire that consumed more mana than it should.
However, while Pol had a higher level, Garan's ice was fundamentally higher quality and his fire wall wasn't able to melt the entire thing—let alone it had metallic needles inside—causing a few to go through and hit him.
"ARGHHH!" he screamed, annoyed. Although Garan's attack had lower momentum thanks to his firewall, the fact that it still went through and caused him pain was making him see red.
Garan had no time to deal with him, however. His eyes flickered with slyness as he shifted direction, causing the two enemies to almost bump into each other.
They managed to stop in time, but the pause allowed Garan to pivot sharply, unleashing a powerful side kick that hit Pol right at the stomach, pushing him several steps into the direction of Garan's choice.
Whoosh!
"AHHHH!"
Pol screamed as a sentry arrow hit him at the side. A Level 5 sentry had limited effects on him, but it didn't mean the wound wouldn't be painful!
And it was painful as heck!
While Pol pulled out the damned arrow, Garan didn't waste the momentum he got from the kick. He turned around and sent a few attacks in Killic's direction, too.
He used his Superior Class C weapon and sent parry after parry, slash after slash, pushing Killic elsewhere, presumably to be targeted by a sentry or a ballista bolt as well.
Killic narrowed his eyes when a particularly heavy attack caused his arms to shake a bit, though he was quick enough to avoid the follow-up.
He could not imagine being five levels lower in this situation. He reckoned he would've lost quite a bit of skin by now.
Killic thought: He was doing his best but this guy was still holding on after so long—how much stronger would he be at his level?!
The thought frankly terrified him a bit, causing him to get a bit more desperate in his attacks. He almost—almost—got hit by a ballista bolt that targeted the back of his head.
Unlike Pol, though, Killic managed to pull someone to catch the arrowhead in his stead. Although a direct hit would not kill him, his defenses were already compromised and he might get injured regardless.
The two enemies recovered and lunged towards Garan once more, sending him attack after attack, though they were also limiting the use of skills to save up mana.
Garan took this chance to focus on defense. He had to maintain the few tokens he still had while slowly recovering his mana and spirit as well.
He entered deeper into enemy mobs, adding chaos and slightly lightening up the load of his teammates.
"Change to A-position!" he bellowed, and his team changed their formation which, in turn, pushed some of the mobs in a certain direction.
The movement en masse also ended up pushing Garan's enemies in a direction he could predict, and he sent preemptive attacks that they could not block in time.
This time, his attack was not just with a Class C weapon.
"AH!"
"ORCSHIT!"
By this time, a few mercenaries had arrived to help out. This was the first time they had seen Garan in action.
This man… was dealing with two elites far stronger than him in level, but was also—somehow—leading the troops at the same time.
All Alterran fighters were quite impressive for their levels, but the Elder of Military Affairs certainly was several steps above the rest.
He was not even level 30.
If he were a bit stronger than this—wouldn't he be unstoppable?
What do you think?
