After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World

Chapter 1279: Overpowered (Part 2)

Other than the Golds, Alterra had a surprising amount of external help.

For instance, there was Eloi, Bart, Bulgogi, Rolan Mercenary Team, and so on. They also came from Towns, but Twinwave was a much more powerful town, so their average levels were quite impressive at this level of war.

There was additionally Enok, Raz, Senson, and Puto of the Takoda Mercenary team. Although they were from a new city, their levels weren't that high yet, and many of them were within the level limit. Even if they weren't, they could contribute in other ways, like what Zaol did.

Those within the level cap fought hard and harshly, aiming to kill, regardless of who it was.

Unlike Alterrans, their hearts were not so soft.

The only exception, perhaps, was in relation to the couple of elementalists who came their way. In their case, they'd just fight until the other person was unconscious, and they'd just let them be after that. Whether they would survive in the mob was up to fate.

Other than that, they were quite brutal.

For contribution points!

Interestingly, there were also mercenary teams who joined but were actually neutral, at least at first. They stood by the walls and pushed enemies down, but they were actually watching closely to determine who to ally with. If they decided to go with the attackers, they'd just step back and go back to their inns.

However, not even an hour after the war started, many of them came to a unanimous decision.

Although Basset was impressive, its potential could not be compared to Alterra's, so they ended up helping them out.

The Basset Town fighters could possibly only look up the battlement with a powerhouse guarding each section. They were already having trouble before, but now cold water doused on them.

"Damnit! When did they have these people?!"

Before the war, Alterra let go several known spies to send some lacking information, some with erroneous ones. One of the information they fed was their levels. Although Fargo was obsessed with Garan and his team, he lacked information about the others.

Although he estimated some of their visitors might help, he would have not imagined it would be so many of them—and they'd be so… passionate!

And so—for a long time—Basset Town could simply not move forward!

After an hour or two of no progress, the monster mob brought by Gregor and Zaol was finally cleared out. About a third of the level 20s had perished during this mob, and it could've been worse if their reinforcement hadn't arrived on time.

After Fargo saw that things weren't looking good, he immediately got the others to get reinforcement. He wanted to do it himself, but they forbade him from 'escaping' the mess he made.

In the end, they managed to tap into the arrogant old monsters of the territory—at least those within the level cap.

"How useless," Turocc, a level 40 powerhouse, said, sneering at all of them. Next to him was another old man, the level 39 Killic, whose expression was filled with disgust. They were 79 years old and 70 years old, respectively.

The two of them were some of the older guards from the previous generation Lord. They were granted noble titles and had been living a semi-retired life, considering the monsters at town level could barely give them experience anymore.

Neither wanted to go to Cities either, because there they would just be 'strong' but not strong enough to be so revered, especially at their age.

Of course, they were still aiming to buy a lot of aether stones, which were too expensive. The money offered to them this time was not bad and would help with their purchase of aether stones.

Still, when they arrived, they were surprised. They didn't think it would be this bad!

"Isn't this place a new Town? And didn't we mobilize nearly all of our forces? How could it get this bad?!"

He then looked at the other people who came through the array with them. He couldn't help but feel embarrassed!

Other than them, there were also about a few dozen new mercenaries hired to help out!

They already hired nearly a hundred mercenaries before the war, and apparently that wasn't enough!?

How could Basset Town be pushed to this?!

In any case, they specifically hired a Class C Mercenary Team, so the weakest among them was in his level 20s. It was definitely not cheap to get so many at the shortest amount of time.

Interestingly, it was the Lord himself who pushed for all this. They found out that Alterra had killed Patte (who, in their opinion, was a useless heir anyway), so the Lord was supportive of the bleeding funds.

They did not make a move for a while and focused on reorganizing the supply lines, though only 'useful' people were given healing and mana potion. Anyone who was practically disabled or very weak was not given priority at all.

Turocc and Killic stared at the walls and so far they could only see people climbing up, but it didn't seem like they were getting through.

"Those are powerful people…" Killic said, narrowing his eyes in a direction. It so happened that the section of the wall they were near in was Obi's scope. He was also particularly visible because of the burning siege shields they had in the area.

Considering there was no use all over, it was safe to assume there were similarly strong forces elsewhere. "How did they get so many?"

"They must've used their products," Fargo said, heaving a deep breath.

"You didn't think to tell us this?"

"I didn't know they'd recruit so many!"

It was around this time that he felt his aether letter finally alert him of something. He heaved a deep breath, relieved to finally get some news after so long.

"About time—"

His voice died down as he read its contents, and he immediately paled.

Seeing him silent, Teng—whose arms bled a lot and were barely healed by a potion—grabbed it from him.

The man's eyes widened, and he immediately whipped his head and glared at Fargo, as if blaming him for everything. "The aether letter reports also said there were a lot of people beyond the level cap! There's even someone higher than level 50!"
