Chapter 129: 129: Mr. Si: Qiaoqiao, Give Me a Chance
Chapter 129: Chapter 129: Mr. Si: Qiaoqiao, Give Me a Chance
After many unanswered rings, Sang Qiao couldn’t give up and called again.
Since being disappointed by her brothers, she hadn’t been so patient; if Si Chenli didn’t answer, she would keep calling one after another.
It was probably due to her persistence that, on the sixth call, it was finally answered, and Si Chenli’s hoarse, slightly weary voice came through.
“Still not sleeping?”
It was clear she had woken him from a deep sleep. Hearing his familiar voice, Sang Qiao nearly sighed with relief and said gently, “I want to come see you.”
In the silent night, her soft voice sounded almost coquettishly delicate.
On the other end of the screen, Si Chenli gripped his phone, veins bulging on his hand as he restrained himself and said, “Be good, go to sleep, I’ll be back soon.”
“Does your leg hurt a lot? Can I come see you?” Sang Qiao’s voice was a bit sour.
She remembered the year Sang Shen was injured; he had sent many messages wanting to see her, but she really couldn’t leave; she herself was lying in a hospital bed.
Now that Si Chenli was injured, he didn’t want her to visit, afraid it would worry her.
What about Si Chenli, though? Wouldn’t he feel pain, wouldn’t he feel wronged?
Did he really not wish for her to be by his side?
“It’s not painful, not worth seeing.”
“That’s okay, I’ve already seen you in a wheelchair before,” said Sang Qiao stubbornly.
This nearly broke all of Si Chenli’s resolve. He struggled to keep his lips sealed and said sternly, “Hang up, go to sleep.”
“Don’t.”
Hearing the girl’s obstinate voice, Si Chenli moved his lips but couldn’t bring himself to say anything.
He didn’t have the heart to hang up.
During these days in the hospital, how could he not want to see her, hear her voice, especially after Si Jing relayed what Sang Qiao said, “A good horse returns to its stable; she’ll wait in Jiang City for him.” But having seen his miserable state once was enough; he didn’t want her to see a second time.
“You should know, you can delete messages, but I can find out too; it’s just more cumbersome. But searching every hospital one by one isn’t something I haven’t done before.”
Sang Qiao was gambling that he wouldn’t have the heart to make her search for him so laboriously.
She had actually done that before, when she had just healed from a knife wound caused by a kidnapper, thinking Sang Shen was in trouble, but no one at home would tell her where Sang Shen was.
She was really worried about Sang Shen, so she searched every hospital in Jiang City.
Thinking about how much she cared for Sang Shen back then, her thoughts drifted.
“I’m at Jiangcheng Medical College; you can come tomorrow, it’s dark now,” came the man’s compromising words from the other end of the line.
“Okay,” Sang Qiao obediently replied, hung up the phone, then got out of bed, put on her jacket, and went downstairs.
A few days ago, for convenience to the company, she had hired a driver and purchased a car, so traveling now was quite easy; she dialed her driver’s number and waited for him in the parking lot.
The driver lived on the first floor of the villa and arrived promptly.
Driving Sang Qiao to the medical college, upon arrival, she told him to go back home and sleep.
She then ran to the front desk to inquire about the floor Si Chenli was on.
“Sorry, our hospital doesn’t have this person,” the receptionist said with a polite smile.
A janitor nearby, who happened to overhear, quickly stepped forward and said, “Miss Sang Qiao, just go straight to Room 907 on the ninth floor; Mr. Si is in that room.”
“Thank you,” said Sang Qiao, without delay, she headed upstairs.
The receptionist nurse looked bewildered, “Didn’t they say not to reveal that Mr. Si is being treated in our hospital?”
“That was put up by Mr. Si himself; she seems to be that famous star Sang Qiao! They are a couple on the romance reality show. I used to obsess over them, and now… They are having a secret meeting here late at night, ah, I’m so happy, the couple I shipped actually exists!”
The nurse who had just come downstairs was excited, unfortunately, she hadn’t dared to ask for an autograph just then.
The janitor at the reception looked puzzled, “…” She didn’t follow reality shows, so she didn’t understand.
After Sang Qiao arrived at the ninth floor, the entire corridor was quiet, except for the lights that were still on.
She stopped in front of Room 907, raised her hand to knock but feared waking him up again if he had already fallen asleep.
Directly opening the door seemed inappropriate.
While she hesitated, her phone rang with a call from Si Chenli.
Just as the call connected, she heard his deep voice, “Come in, I haven’t slept yet.”
“Okay.” Sang Qiao didn’t hesitate and pushed the door open, instantly spotting the man lying on the hospital bed looking somewhat pale, but it didn’t affect his handsomeness at all.
Half-reclining on the hospital bed, there was nobody attending to him, her delicate brows furrowed, “Isn’t Si Jing here?”
“I sent him home.” Si Chenli moved his thin lips but didn’t tell her that he had just left.
Si Chenli knew her character well enough to guess that she wouldn’t obediently wait till the next day to come over, so he had informed the nurse in advance to receive her downstairs.
“What will you do if you need to use the bathroom at night?” Sang Qiao walked over and sat down on a stool beside his bed.
There was silence for a moment, “There’s a janitor.”
From his response, Sang Qiao guessed that he probably didn’t like having the janitor stay in the same room, so the janitor slept elsewhere.
He would call the janitor when needed, she observed his slightly weak appearance, “You should rest now.”
“The room next door has been prepared for you, you should sleep too,” Si Chenli’s gaze tenderly fell on her small face.
“Okay.” While Sang Qiao wasn’t sleepy, she knew her presence would interfere with his rest.
Now that she had seen he was alright, her heart felt much more at ease.
“Do you remember what you said?” the man couldn’t help himself and grabbed her wrist as she got up.
In the quiet night, Si Chenli’s deep black eyes held a touch of tenderness.
“Which phrase are you referring to?” Sang Qiao’s fingertips moved unconsciously, her heart faintly guessing what he meant.
She had spoken quickly at the time, and now felt overwhelmed when he brought it up.
Although many had confessed to her during her school days and she had never been moved, having been single from birth, she was clueless about love.
“Qiaoqiao, give me a chance.” Si Chenli chuckled lowly, capturing the look of bewilderment on her face.
“Okay.” Sang Qiao’s voice was soft; having said that she freed herself from his large hand and walked to the adjacent room.
Si Chenli couldn’t help but let out a faint smile, not holding her back any longer.
He understood that Qiaoqiao needed time to process.
Si Chen glanced at his own legs under the blankets, feeling surprisingly joyful about being injured for the first time.
That night, separated by just a wall, neither of them slept.
The next day, Sang Qiao arrived in Si Chenli’s hospital room with dark circles under her eyes, wanting to take care of him.
Coincidentally, Si Jing came in with breakfast and was startled at the sight of their dark circles, “Brother, Sang Qiao, what happened to you two? How are your dark circles so severe? And you two look exactly the same.”
What do you think?
