Chapter 508 - 8 Dragon Slayer
Gu Shaobang quickly took on the role of a battlefield nurse as soon as he saw the need, beginning to heal their wounds. Although his profession as a Wizard also somewhat allowed him to dabble in healing, each use of witchcraft required a certain price to be paid. Hence, after giving a couple of members, who were hanging on by a sliver of health, a few boosts, he immediately ceased his healing actions.
Nevertheless, these individuals did not press for more and instead each pulled out some red elixirs from their backpacks. These elixirs were wholesaled by Xiao Buli from Ji Xiangyun. While not as effective as healing spells, they could still provide a modicum of health recovery. These had already been distributed before the battle began, and now, one by one, they consumed the medicines and slowly regained their health points.
Meanwhile, Xiao Buli, Du Yibo, and the entire support team stood side by side, ready to unleash their powerful moves against the oncoming Fire Spirits.
The composition of the support team was rather complex with a wide range of abilities. The group was primarily made up of players similar to Mages but without healing skills. Xiao Buli and Du Yibo were undoubtedly the core members. As the last two survivors from the Green Dragon Group, their strength naturally far exceeded that of the Solo Players, especially since both belonged to Mage Professions, which were particularly well-suited to deal with these Fire Spirits that were almost immune to physical damage.
Although Du Yibo, the Five Elements Warlock, mainly practiced Fire Element spells, he had some exposure to other elements as well. Xiao Buli and Du Yibo had once unexpectedly encountered each other underground when Xiao Buli first began learning Earth Escape Skills. However, Du Yibo had maintained a low profile, so others were unaware of his abilities. Even though he later opted for solo combat, Du Yibo still liked to have a trick up his sleeve. If Xiao Buli had not been somewhat aware of his capabilities, this old fellow would probably still be hiding his true strength.
Xiao Buli was the first to act—Summon Heavy Rain! Lifting his right hand, which was forming a spell, a mass of dark clouds suddenly shrouded the sky above the battlefield in a matter of seconds, as if a rift connecting the world with the clouds had opened in the air. A multitude of clumps of black clouds appeared out of nowhere, growing rapidly and forming a large scale. The torrential rain poured down immediately; each large raindrop hit the ground and hissed with steam. Although the Heavy Rain spell didn't really harm people, it was highly damaging to Raging Fire Spirits, who were immune to fire damage and highly resistant to physical attacks. However, their Resistance to Water Spells was negative. Each raindrop inflicted one or two points of damage on them. As the dense rain poured down, the screen was immediately flooded with red -1-2 damage numbers.
The melee fighters at the back could only watch, their eyes wide with amazement. These beings, once invincible to them, were now nearly extinguished by a single downpour.
Inside the veil of rain, plumes of white smoke continuously rose from the Raging Fire Spirits, as if a large bucket of water had been poured over a burning campfire, extinguishing most of the flames in an instant. With the loss of their flames, the mobility of the Fire Spirits also greatly diminished. Their once fluid forms, now like cooled molten metal, were nearly incapable of shifting. Moreover, unlike Lava Golems that moved on two legs, these Fire Spirits mainly relied on the flow and re-convergence of magma. Simply put, their movement was somewhat like a slug, stretching and contracting. Now without their elasticity, they could no longer stretch, and they all became fixed in place.
Yet, this was not enough to deal with them. Watching their health points drop by a third, Xiao Buli didn't give them any chance to breathe and raised his hand again, casting Freezing Cloud Skills. A white mist instantly enveloped a row of Raging Fire Spirits, which had already half extinguished. At first, no one saw the trick behind this white mist, but soon they noticed that a layer of vapor seemed to condense on the bodies of the Fire Spirits. The mist created by the Freezing Cloud Skills was exceptionally cold. People sitting in front of their computers didn't feel anything, but Xiao Buli experienced the chilling air firsthand.
Owing to Xiao Buli's overwhelming power, the rest of the support team suddenly found themselves without targets to attack. Their own ability wasn't that high to begin with, and they weren't well-versed in Ice Element spells, so even though they were standing at the front, they effectively became onlookers.
But Du Yibo was different. Not only was his strength outstanding among them, but since he and Xiao Buli had been in a group before, their coordination was somewhat tacit. Seeing that Xiao Buli had already frozen the enemies in place and yet didn't make any further move, Du Yibo instantly understood what was needed and cast Polar Vortex!
The ultimate move unleashed by Du Yibo was indeed a game-changer. Although Xiao Buli's Heavy Rain and Freezing Clouds effectively contained the Fire Spirits on the field, they lacked a powerful battle skill. Waiting for those raindrops to kill the Fire Spirits would be too exasperating, like using nail clippers to cut hair. The slow pace would be maddening to watch.
With the unleashing of Du Yibo's Polar Vortex, the situation was thoroughly dealt with. A cold whirlwind, visibly powerful, swept toward the group of Fire Spirits frozen on the ground, ensnaring the Freezing Clouds, Heavy Rain, and Raging Fire Spirits all together in a turmoil, like a big pot stew. The Fire Spirits appeared as if they were tossed into a high-speed washing machine, constantly colliding against each other.
Amidst the rain, mist, and collisions, the whirlwind acted like a meat grinder, wildly depleting the health points of the Raging Fire Spirits. Xiao Buli watched the effect and knew it was exactly what he wanted. He slightly bent his knees at his spot, and in the next moment, with a spring from his legs, he shot up into the sky like lightning, eliciting a collective gasp of "Wow!" from the crowd behind.
Xiao Buli had used Cloud Thunder Leap previously at the cave entrance while fighting the Little Red Dragon, but at that time, the intense situation on the battlefield had drawn everyone's attention to the two dragons. Although the field was chaotic now, the battle was decidedly one-sided, so when Xiao Buli shot up into the sky with Cloud Thunder Leap, it was noted by everyone watching. Instead of hurrying to land, Xiao Buli hovered mid-air, observing the Polar Vortex on the ground below. The vortex had already brought all the Fire Spirits together, but as the spell's mana was limited, the speed gradually slowed. Timing his move, Xiao Buli waited for the vortex to begin subsiding before plummeting straight down.
All at once, a thunderous explosion rang by my ear, as lightning bolted through the clouds and struck down in the middle of the arena. The Raging Fire Spirits, already huddled together and low on health, were about to land when they were obliterated within the blast. For a moment, the only sight was of rocks flying wildly through the air until the dust settled, revealing Xiao Buli kneeling on one knee, coolly sitting at the epicenter of the explosion.
With a beautiful quadruple strike, the troublesome Raging Fire Spirits that had been a headache for the group were wiped out in the blink of an eye. The crowd on the field fell silent for a good three or four seconds before suddenly erupting into cheers, "Well done, boss."
"Boss, you're so cool."
The hunters didn't have time to look back and see exactly what had happened, but the melee and support groups had seen everything clearly from beginning to end, and the crowd was boiling with excitement.
Xiao Buli got to his feet, smiled at everyone, and had to admit that no matter when, the feeling of being admired was always exhilarating.
However, now was not the time for celebrating. The Red Dragon in the arena was still resisting. Xiao Buli turned back to survey the battle, and in the few minutes they had delayed, the hunters on the field had not taken a single break. Although according to his calculations, the Red Dragon's health loss and recovery rate were almost the same, it was not clear whether it was due to the hunters' diligence in shooting or the Red Dragon's reduced recovery ability, but at this moment, the Red Dragon was down to less than twenty percent of its health and seemed to have exhausted its strength. Its movements were tired and sluggish as it struggled with the entanglement of the Lava Giant Python, looking as if it were about to collapse.
However, neglecting it for a moment, Xiao Buli noticed that the python wasn't in much better shape, having lost more than half its health, with wounds marring its body where the Red Dragon had clawed it. The python's skin was peeling outwards, only marginally better off than the Red Dragon's own. Xiao Buli quickly cast several healing spells to restore the python's health.
Turning around, Xiao Buli shouted to the crowd, "Everyone get ready, the BOSS is entering the execute phase now, forget about aggro and go full firepower, give it everything you've got!"
The melee group had also recovered most of their health by now and the sight of Xiao Buli slaying the Fire Spirits had fired them up even more. At this point, without needing Xiao Buli's directions, they surged forward in a rush.
Upon hearing his command, the hunters were overjoyed. Just now, while shooting, they had been careful not to attract too much aggro, sticking to flat shots, the most basic form of shooting, resulting in minimal health loss on the Red Dragon. But now, with the go-ahead to disregard aggro, they immediately went all out with their abilities. Focused Shot, Barrage of Arrows, Merciless Volley—rained down on the Scarlet Flame Red Dragon like droplets in a downpour, and for a moment, the arena lit up with various effects like fireworks, dazzling the eyes of onlookers.
The melee group swarmed forward as well, avoiding the Dragon Head and tail, getting into position and hacking and slashing wildly at the Red Dragon. The engineering group was just as impressive, launching two to three shells every half minute. Upon impact, each dealt two to three thousand points of damage. By now, the Red Dragon had completely lost any power to retaliate, its movements reduced in scale, making it so that the hunters didn't even need to aim anymore.
Although the situation on the field had become quite clear, Xiao Buli remained vigilant in his heart. The more assured he felt of victory, the more careful he became. Thus, he healed the python a few more times. Looking at the situation on the ground, there was no immediate threat to life, so Xiao Buli pushed off the ground with his legs and flew into the sky again, ready to deliver a fatal blow to the Little Red Dragon in its last moments of desperation. But it seemed the Little Red Dragon was indeed finished; after all, it wasn't any BOSS, and under everyone's full-powered assault, it failed to unleash any final moves and, after a sad cry, collapsed with a thud.
