Chapter 1282: Reincarnation King
Chapter 1282: Reincarnation King
While Jin Tong and Xue Li were grappling with one another, a massive, golden lightning cloud had taken shape in the heavens above, and a majestic heavenly gate appeared within it.
"Get back, Jin Tong!" Han Li yelled, and Jin Tong immediately released Xue Li's ax, then reverted back to her human form as she shot back in retreat.
Immediately thereafter, an enormous, golden sword came crashing down from above amid a deafening thunderclap.
A sense of foreboding welled up in Xue Li's heart upon seeing this, yet right as he was about to take evasive measures, a burst of light suddenly descended upon him from above.
As soon as the burst of light swept over him, his vision suddenly blurred, and it was as if his soul had received an abrupt jolt.
Countless arcs of golden lightning sprang out of the giant sword, filling the entire space within a radius of several hundred feet.
Xue Li was only dazed for a moment before returning to his senses, but by then, it was already too late to evade the oncoming attack.
He took a resentful glance at Weeping Soul, who was the one that had placed him in this perilous position, then swung his ax diagonally upward.
His body instantly swelled to over a hundred times its original size, and the ax in his grasp ballooned in size to the same degree, and the crimson vortex on its surface became brighter and brighter as it rumbled toward the golden lightning sword.
An explosion of blinding light erupted high up in the sky amid a deafening boom as devastating shockwaves swept through the air in all directions.
More explosions continued to ring out one after another, completely decimating everything in the surrounding area. For some reason, as soon as Xue Li was freed from his seal, the army of ghostly beings that had been extremely apprehensive about setting foot on the stone bridge suddenly set aside their inhibitions and stormed onto the bridge in pursuit of Han Li's trio.
The ghostly creatures charging at the forefront were instantly decimated by the destructive shockwaves sweeping through the air with the exception of several of the most powerful ghostly beings among them, and a ghostly general that was leading the way immediately issued a loud order for everyone to stop.
Even Jin Tong was unable to stand firm against the powerful shockwaves, and she was doing her best to shield the wounded Weeping Soul as she stumbled back in retreat.
Only after a long while did the dust finally settle, and at this point, the lightning cloud and the heavenly gate in the sky had already faded away.
It was unclear what material the stone bridge was constructed from, but it remained completely unscathed even in the wake of such an intense battle. Xue Li was still standing on the bridge with the blade of his ax resting on the ground, but there was a horrific gash that ran down from his headless neck to his chest, splitting his entire chest cavity into two.
Han Li was even able to see his moving organs through the wound, but he remained completely still on the spot, and Han Li wasn't able to detect any aura from him using his spiritual sense.
Is he dead?
Han Li observed Xue Li for a moment longer with a skeptical expression, then rushed over to Jin Tong and Weeping Soul.
"Is he dead, Uncle?" Jin Tong hurriedly asked.
"I'm not sure," Han Li replied.
He then cast a concerned gaze toward Weeping Soul and asked, "Are you alright?"
"The injury isn't too severe, but there's a burst of strange law powers present in the wound, preventing it from healing," Weeping Soul replied.
Han Li's brows furrowed slightly upon hearing this, and he walked around her to examine her back, then placed a hand over her wound.
A delicate, green seedling emerged from the palm of his hand, and a root extended out of it before reaching into Weeping Soul's wound.
Weeping Soul gave a muffled groan, then gritted her teeth tightly to endure the pain in silence.
A miniature, palm-sized, golden tree slowly came growing out of the wound on her back, and it was none other than Han Li's Eastern Vicissitudes Divine Tree.
The roots of the tree served as sewing needles that stitched Weeping Soul's skin and flesh together bit by bit, and under the effects of Han Li's time law powers, the wound quickly healed, following which the golden tree slowly dissipated into nothingness.
"He seems to have mastered some type of reincarnation law powers that are able to constantly restore your flesh to its wounded state, thereby preventing it from healing, but I've forcibly broken the cycle with my time law powers," Han Li said.
"I see. Thank heavens you're able to counteract his powers, Master," Weeping Soul replied with a nod.
"This is a very strange place, and now that Xue Li has been freed, it seems like those ghostly creatures have regained the courage to come after us, so let's get out of here," Han Li said.
Jin Tong and Weeping Soul naturally raised no objections to this. In particular, Jin Tong was very eager to leave this place behind.
Right at this moment, a burst of law power fluctuations suddenly surged out of Xue Li's body, and a crimson vortex that was revolving in the anti-clockwise direction appeared over his chest, then gradually expanded to devour his entire body.
"What's going on?"
Both Weeping Soul and Jin Tong were rather alarmed to see this.
"Forget him, let's get out of here," Han Li urged, and the three of them immediately sped away toward the other end of the bridge.
Only after the three of them had vanished out of sight did the crimson vortex begin to revolve in the clockwise direction, and Xue Li's headless body stepped out from within it.
The injuries inflicted upon him by Han Li had already healed, and even his aura had fully recovered.
"They made a smart decision to run. Otherwise, I would've made them regret ever crossing me! If it isn't for my old injuries, it wouldn't have taken me anywhere this long for me to unleash such a minor reincarnation technique!" Xue Li harrumphed coldly.
Right at his moment, a loud commotion rang out nearby, and the army of ghostly beings stormed onto the scene.
However, before they could reach Xue Li, the ghostly general at the forefront of the army raised a fist up high and loudly ordered everyone to stop.
The ghostly general then cast an incredulous gaze toward Xue Li as he called out in an uncertain voice, "Master Xue Li..."
Xue Li instantly swung around to face the ghostly general, and a surprised look appeared in his eyes as he asked, "Yin Luo, is that you?"
The ghostly general immediately rushed over to Xue Li and fell to his knees, then kowtowed to the ground and declared in a respectful voice, "Yin Luo pays his respects to Master Xue Li."
All of the ghostly beings behind the ghostly general also fell to their knees and kowtowed to the ground as their bodies trembled in awe and veneration.
Xue Li stared at Yin Luo in an absentminded manner, seemingly lost in his own thoughts.
Some time later, he heaved a long sigh as he said, "You may stand."
Yin Luo remained on his knees, but raised his head to reveal an elated expression as he said, "Congratulations on regaining your freedom, Master Xue Li!"
"Those cultivators of the True Immortal Realm were the ones who freed me. Speaking of which, it seems like you're pursuing them, is that right?" Xue Li asked.
"That's right. I don't know how they managed to get here, and we were unable to intercept them," Yin Luo replied.
"I was going to kill them after they freed me, but they had some tricks up their sleeves, and I still have residual internal injuries from long ago, so they were able to get away," Xue Li said.
"Master Xue Li, your injuries..." Yin Luo began, only for Xue Li to raise a hand to stop him.
"Tell me about what's happened since I was sealed away," Xue Li ordered.
"After you disappeared, our forces devolved into internal conflict without your leadership. After that, I received word that you were being imprisoned in Gui Wu's Sinful Mirror City. Yin Qiu, Fan Li, and I attacked the city to try and free you, but we suffered a crushing defeat. After Fan Li perished, most of his forces defected to the Infernal King, while the rest surrendered to Gui Wu," Yin Luo replied.
"What about Yin Qiu?" Xue Li asked.
"Yin Qiu and I have never gotten along with each other, and we parted ways after Fan Li died. I've been trying to hold onto our existing territory to the best of my abilities, while he gradually faded into obscurity. I heard... I heard that he went on to pledge his subordination to the Reincarnation King," Yin Luo replied.
"The Reincarnation King?" Xue Li asked in a puzzled manner.
"He's the mysterious figure who joined forces with the Infernal King and Gui Wu to seal you away," Yin Luo explained.
"How was his identity revealed?" Xue Li asked.
"After he sealed you away, he took over the majority of our territory and declared himself the Reincarnation King. His actions broke the agreement established between the trio, so the Infernal King led her forces to attack him, but were defeated.
“Her most trusted subordinate led what remained of her forces to our territory and revealed to us the truth behind how you were sealed away, but we've been unable to undo the seal on you for all these years," Yin Luo explained.
"The Infernal King is dead?" Xue Li asked as a hint of melancholy crept into his voice.
"Not only that, but Gui Wu is also dead, and both of them were killed by the Reincarnation. Right now, almost the entirety of the three major regions are already under his control," Yin Luo continued.
A stunned look appeared in Xue Li's eyes upon hearing this.
Before Xue Li was sealed away, the three major regions had each been ruled over by one of him, the Infernal King, and Gui Wu. Xue Li was the most capable warrior of the three, the Infernal King had the most powerful forces, and Gui Wu was the most cunning and treacherous. On top of that, he had a vast collection of life-saving tricks up his sleeve, so it came as quite a shock to Xue Li that even he had perished by the Reincarnation King's hands.
"It sounds like all of us were played by that Reincarnation King. We have only ourselves to blame for constantly fighting over that reincarnation-attribute cultivation method. Otherwise, the Reincarnation King would've never been able to drive such a potent wedge between us," Xue Li sighed in a forlorn manner.
What do you think?
