Chapter 41: THE RISK AND THE BENEFIT
Chapter 41: THE RISK AND THE BENEFIT
Zuri woke up with a headache. She cried so hard last night, but at some point, she fell asleep.
They didn't do anything. Khaos didn't do anything to her, aside from holding her without saying anything. It was a weird night. Even when she remembered that she just killed Elder Erik and the fact that was the first time she killed someone, the only memory that stood out for her was that time she spent in his arms.
"Your mate has been looking for you."
Zuri whipped her head to her left, hearing his voice. That was a wrong move though, because it only amplified her headache.
"It's almost noon." Khaos added.
He grinned when Zuri immediately got off the bed and tidied herself up in front of the mirror, but once she was done and faced Khaos again, she looked hesitant to leave this room.
"Can I meet with you again?"
Khaos looked amused. "We will meet again at some point."
There would always be an event in the palace, which required all the royal family members to attend. Definitely, they would meet again.
"You know what I meant." Zuri shook her head. She was being very bold now. "Can I see you again? Only you and me?"
"Are you suggesting we start an affair, Luna?" Khaos didn't seem surprised, he looked relaxed and calm when Zuri admitted to that. "That's too risky, but..." his words hang in the air. He stood up and approached Zuri.
Summer was here, you could smell it in the wind that blew through the window and hear it in the chirping of the birds outside.
"If the benefit is worth the risk. I will think about that." Khaos caressed her cheek and she leaned into his touch.
It was addictive to Zuri. Khaos' touch was different. Did she know it was wrong? Of course. Did she want to stop this? No.
Men in her life always took advantage of her, thus even when Zuri knew that Khaos was doing the same thing, at the very least, this was her choice.
She could choose to back down and stop it, but she didn't want to.
More so, it was not about physical pleasure, Khaos could get any woman that he wanted. She knew what 'benefits' he actually wanted.
"Why did you kill Elder Erik?" Zuri snuggled and hugged him, listening to his strong heartbeat. It was crazy, but she was obsessed with him. "You were sent to the Three Deadly Ways because you killed an elder from my pack. Why are you targeting people from my pack?"
Khaos hugged her back, caressed her head.
"Does it bother you?"
Zuri thought about that for a while. "No." He could kill anyone from her pack and she didn't care. Just like how they didn't care about her.
"So, you don't care if I destroyed your pack?"
Zuri lifted her head. Hatred and anger evident in her beautiful eyes. "Destroy them. Burn that pack to the ground if you deem it necessary. I would be glad to watch them turn to ashes."

"Where have you been?" Karina hissed when she saw Zuri had just returned to Xaden's palace. She had been waiting for her here, while the men were having an important meeting. "Are you crazy? Alpha Xaden has been very furious all this morning because no one saw you! Thankfully, I can stop him from sending the warriors in search of you!"
From the looks of it, people started calling her crazy as much as they called her name.
"I am hungry, mother. I don't want to talk about this." Zuri waved her hand, but Karina caught her wrist and then turned her body around to face her.
"You are not going to dismiss me like that, Zuri." Her expression hardened. She was frustrated. "Did you meet with Alpha Khaos?"
"Yes." Zuri saw no point in lying to her. More so, her mother wouldn't say anything about it to her father or Xaden.
They were in the hallway and Karina looked around her to make sure there was no one nearby. They shouldn't have this conversation in a public area like this.
"You are crazy." Karina shook her head, but she was not surprised, as if this was within her expectations. "Alpha Khaos holds an important position in the palace and King Dacre is closer to him. But, will he protect you and shelter you if the situation goes wrong?"
See? Zuri knew her mother would be against it. She was only worried about her wellbeing. She condoned Zuri's affair. How sweet...
The truth was that, in her opinion, it wouldn't hurt to keep a few important people within her loop.
"I am not sure."
Zuri pushed her mother away and then went inside the bedroom. She needed to rest. Even though she had been sleeping for the whole night, she still felt exhausted. She was hungry,
but it could wait.
After all, she needed to lose weight, right?

"A coup, huh?" King Dacre scoffed. He picked a beautiful red flower and smelled it. He looked
a little bit haggard going through the funeral procession, but his eyes were sharp.
Currently, the king and the alpha from the Gray Wolf pack were walking in the garden, discussing the matter at hand.
"It seems, my dear little brother is getting bolder. He is very impatient to sit on the throne. He and Roland have become very reckless now."
Khaos didn't say anything, as they approached King Amidas and his three daughters, who had been waiting for them.
"What do you suggest? Should we make a move first?"
"No. Let them be." Khaos' eyes fell on Princess Rose, she was the only one, who had black long hair, while Princesses Nycta and Alana took after their father, so they sported brown hair. "Xaden has been in contact with the Great Lunar kingdom; if their plan failed, he would put
all the blame on Roland."
"But, we don't know what their plan is."
"You don't need to worry about that."
The discussion stopped, as they greeted the other king and his daughters.
What do you think?
