Volume 14 Chapter 48: Becoming A Liability
Sarah quickly raised her staff; slowly, a shroud of white mist engulfed the area. The monsters searched around; what came next was only roars. White. There was no way they could see the enemies before them. Soon, slashes came flying out of nowhere. A few fell by the sword while others by the spear. Monsters dropped one by one.
Faelyn's spear was directed at the next monster; however, she quickly pulled back. The sudden movement baffled the beast; even the elf was perplexed. With this slight movement, the beast took the chance to attack her! Shh!
However, it was taken out by an arrow to the head. Krystal frowned, "Watch out." She continued to slice the monsters before her. With the mist shroud around them, it made things much simpler. After they finished,
"Why did you flinch?" Leona frowned at Faelyn. That moment of hesitation would have gotten her killed if she were alone.
"...I thought there would be magic coming here." Faelyn sighed. Leona frowned further, "Why do you think I would fire magic?" She was an archer, not a mage.
Krystal thought about it before muttering, "Is it because of Alfia?"
"Mmhmm." The elf nodded. The two had always worked in tandem with one another. Alfia's movements had been integrated into her brain.
Sarah's brows furrowed, “I think that’s going to be an issue with the two of you.”
“...” The elf was silent.
Krystal frowned, “Is that why you asked us to come with you?” From how she reacted, it seemed she understood this issue.
“Mmhmm.” Faelyn nodded. This was something she realized. Most of the flaws she had were covered by Alfia. The two were inseparable, which made them understand one another. This was perfect in group battles. However, when alone, this teamwork becomes a crutch.
Leona snorted, “You should have said so from the start. Besides that, you’re heavily reliant on the elf.” Everyone knew about this; when there was Alfia, usually there was Faelyn. They were together 24/7. It was only times when Alfia went out with Keith that she didn't go with.
"You two are friends, but there's always this sense of distance between you two." Leona noticed an oddity. Faelyn was cordial with everyone. But over time, she talked casually with them. But there was an outlier; Alfia. She continued to call her princess, which was formal.
“...” Faelyn took a deep breath, “That’s something I need to work on.” She needed to fix her flaws right here and now. Leona nodded, "Then we'll stick with you." Krystal and Sarah glanced at one another and followed after the two. While they trained, Aidiun stared at the others who were reading and relaxing inside the living room.
"Shouldn't you all be studying?"
Carolyn looked at him, "Professor Aidiun, we've been working the whole time. We need to give ourselves a break!" She would die of exhaustion.
"...I see."
"So the first final we have tomorrow is Instructor Tennol's class." Keith thought about it, "We should stretch ourselves as it might be a combat class."
"Okay!"
The day of the finals for Tennol’s class. It was a simple and straightforward test; sparring. Herrick was the first person up as he started to fight against them. The outcome became clear in the first two moves. Herrick's movements were fast and sporadic like aways. Each attack sent the assistant instructor slightly up in the air.
“Woah! Herrick is able to beat one of the instructors.”
“That’s incredible!”
“What a fighter.” The students couldn’t help but cheer on the beastman when he defeated them. While they did, they didn't notice the frown on Tennol's face. But there was nothing to say as even the weakest physically, which was Alfia, was slowly getting ground against them!
Later in the day, that was when they had all arrived before one another. There was something that had to be said, “Don’t you think S-class has gotten a little too big for their britches?”
“We need to put them in their place!” One instructor stated. But when that was said, the others started to do the same since it was about them.
What do you think?
