Volume 14 Chapter 29: A Different Level
Slowly, the number of wolves dwindled down before the rest fled from the scene. They took a sigh of relief as they rested. Some tended to their wounds, while others were sprawled on a log. While they did, they noticed a strange action from the side.
"What are you doing?" Jack was wiping his sword.
"Wiping off the blood from my blade. It'll rust if I don't." Jack was taught how to maintain his weapon by Arlo. With so many people on the island, everyone picked up on a few tricks or two.
"..." Hearing his words, the other students followed his actions. That was when one student muttered,
"Jack, you're amazing."
“Hmm? I’m not that amazing. Keith and Krystal are much better than me.” Jack was a cut below the two.
Coen retorted, “Those two are outliers. You’re pretty good yourself.” Comparing himself to them, of course, they would be better.
“You accurately took out the monster’s weak points the moment they showed it.” The beastman mumbled. Every time the monster had shown itself, Jack made a move, knocking it out before it had the chance to do anything.
It was quite impressive.
"That's because I have experience." Fighting with all the monsters all the time, he certainly gained some inkling of where they were most vulnerable.
"I see."
"We need to rest. Also, have a couple of people to watch as we go to bed."
"Understood."
...
While that was happening, Keith rested under a tree with Knight. Unlike Jack and Coen, who were taking down monsters left and right, his journey was lackluster.
Some monsters came over and were decimated by Knight and him. Food-wise, he was stocked full, and there was not much he needed to do. He had a tent prepared. Like Jack, he used leaves to increase the tent's endurance. He also made himself a small leaf tent for Knight to keep him out of the water.
Keith then noticed the grunts from Knight, “What’s the matter?"
“Neigh?” Keith walked over and noticed the multiple tracks on the floor.
“What in the world? Why are there so many tracks?”
What lay before him were enormous dent marks on the ground. It was weird since it wasn't footprints; this was a long line. It seemed to be multiple as well.
"Let's not disturb that." There was no need for Keith to head over. This was only the second day; he did not need to fight against them. It was to save his energy. Plus, he had enough magic stones.
...
While the finals occurred for Keith and the others, Carolyn groaned in the classroom. Alfia tilted her head, “What’s the matter with you?" It was not a Keith situation again; she accepted him being gone for a week.
“But I really don’t want to have the finals.” That was something that she was begging not to happen. The entire class was having a finals rerun. Herrick and Melor were already dead on the table.
But while she talked about this, “Umm, Princess Carolyn.”
“Yes?”
“There’s a cafe that opened up a few days ago. I was wondering if you would like to go with me?” The student questioned. Carolyn shook her head, “Sorry, but I’m not interested.”
“Okay.” The student left without being able to say anything to her. But that was what you expected since she was beautiful.
“Hah, they need to stop coming near me.” Carolyn sighed.
Alfia and Scarlet chuckled, “What do you expect from a silver-haired beauty.”
“I don’t want to hear that from the two of you. And besides, I’ve already got myself a fiancee.”
“...He is not your fiancee.” Instantly, the room's atmosphere died down.
“Yet.” Carolyn eyed the two while they continued to stare down. It was the same normal situation as it went on. Later in the day, the three headed out to assist Diana and Nephele. With Keith gone, Diana was going to substitute him.
“Father, why are you still here?” Carolyn’s eyes narrowed at him as he watched him eat. Julius muttered, “Nothing is going to stop me from eating here. This is too delicious!” There was something he wasn’t going to give up on.
“...” Alfia was the same as well. And it was only getting worse with more people coming over here. Finrandir was having the time of his life as he ate.
“Eri, come here and have your food.”
“Mmhmm.” The little fox girl got her food and started to eat on the side.
“So, has my granddaughter warmed up to you two yet?”
“...” Carolyn and Alfia looked away before shouting, “What are you even saying?!”
“If she’s Keith’s daughter, that would make her your daughter.” Well, stepdaughter.
“So, is Keith a go?”
Julius frowned, “My little Carolyn, please don’t say something like that.” There was something he didn’t wish to say at all.
What do you think?
