Chapter 30 - 30 24 The Misdirected Butterfly
Chapter 30: Chapter 24 The Misdirected Butterfly Chapter 30: Chapter 24 The Misdirected Butterfly Brother’s gaze was strange.
His voice when he spoke was strange as well, very gentle, and it seemed like he was teasing her on purpose, but that year’s Yun Yuwan didn’t associate it with the word “flirtatious.”
People said Wen Yangzhi was very harsh, yet he never tried to drive her away or said anything like “I have no obligation to support you” to exclude her.
Even Aunt Qin had told her to “be more careful as my daughter.” Could it be that a mistake on her part would lead to her exile?
Even at her most insecure, she knew to seek refuge by Wen Yangzhi’s side for safety.
After that, she gradually developed possessive feelings towards her brother, hoping to catch his attention, hoping he would look at her more, longing for physical contact with him, even if it was just a brush against the back of her hand or a light pat on her shoulder.
She had never been so eager to grow up, wanting him to see her as a woman too.
Being able to help the servants by delivering the late-night snack he wanted, walking up to him, watching him write, his papers covered in economic theories.
To understand him a little more, to catch a glimpse of him a little more.
She would be happy all day long.
Yun Yuwan was certain no one in this world could love Wen Yangzhi more than she did.
Even Aunt Qin and Uncle, she believed, loved him, but their love wasn’t as passionate as hers.
In Belgium, she missed him day and night, and even after deciding to let go, there wasn’t a day she didn’t think of him.
She wanted to know what Brother looked like now, what he was wearing, if he had a female companion.
She was willing to give everything for him, if it could be of help to him.
Each year she loved him more, yet she forcefully reminded herself to forget.
Upon receiving that letter, no matter what it said, it was her only opportunity, and she flew back to China immediately without waiting to know the content.
Yun Yuwan looked at the little teddy bear tied to her phone case.
Brother only exists in the heavens above, desire is hidden in the clouds.
She can only look up to him, unable to share his bed.
At the floral art exhibition the next day, Yun Yuwan was full of apprehension. Although she had spoken to his assistant, she ultimately didn’t know if she would receive flowers from Wen Yangzhi.
Maybe he was still angry.
It wasn’t until two hours before the opening of the exhibition that Zheng, the assistant, finally mentioned to Wen Yangzhi that Yun Yuwan had called.
Wen Yangzhi halted in his flipping through documents and asked, “What’s the name of the flower exhibition?”
Zheng, the assistant, answered respectfully, “Lonely Courtyard in Spring Late at Night. I looked it up; it’s a professional floral art exhibition by a certain brand. The brand’s translated Chinese name is Spring Late at Night, and it was founded by a Miss Yun.”
The fact that Yun Yuwan had started a business was somewhat surprising to him, but he could also predict that it was a small venture, probably something she would tire of and let go of sooner rather than later.
“Send a pot of yellow Phalaenopsis orchids over there.”
Zheng, the assistant, feigned a smile, “Alright.”
The flower language of the yellow Phalaenopsis orchids means prosperous business and career success, often given to those who are just starting out or opening a new venture.
Wen Yangzhi had sent many to others, leaving the buying to his assistants most of the time, accompanied by a congratulatory card, thus he was particularly clear on what to send and could make a decision based on the basic situation he heard.
It was nothing special, uniformly routine.
To her, like to anyone else, indistinguishable, even though she had asked for this flower.
When Zheng went to buy the flowers, the shopkeeper hesitated upon hearing she wanted yellow Phalaenopsis orchids, “The yellow Phalaenopsis orchids have just sold out, is purple okay? They’re all the same.”
Zheng glanced at her watch.
Looking at the time, the exhibition was about to start.
Without much thought, she said, “That’s fine, this pot then. Please wrap it up for me.”
Why bother going out of the way for this Miss Yun to specifically find yellow Phalaenopsis orchids?
“Right away.” Seeing that she managed to close a deal, the shopkeeper was very pleased.
This was Yun Yuwan’s first exhibition in China, especially as the Spring Late at Night floral art brand hadn’t expanded into China, she worried no one would come to see the exhibition.
As the opening time approached, she did another check of the venue to make sure everything was in order before letting people remove the safety barrier.
Her partner Manon also came especially for the occasion. Manon was French, her proper name being Manon. She spent a few years in China from elementary to high school with her mother, hence was exceptionally familiar with Chinese culture. With short bobbed hair and a sharp outfit, she was slim and tall.
Watching Yun Yuwan bustling around, she relaxed lazily against the carved pillar:
“Millie, are you very nervous?”
Yun Yuwan’s palms were sweating, “A bit.”
Manon smiled meaningfully, “It’s not your first time organizing a flower exhibition.”
She was a bit embarrassed, “I’m waiting for someone.”
Manon drawled, “I see.”
Finally, just when Yun Yuwan thought she wouldn’t receive any flowers, Assistant Zheng arrived late.
Handing the pot of purple orchids to Yun Yuwan:
“Director Wen didn’t have time to come, so I’m delivering this on his behalf. This is the purple orchid that Director Wen specifically mentioned to give to you.”
Normally, receiving a purple orchid wouldn’t mean much — many people had sent over purple orchids today.
However, while everyone else’s were yellow, this one was purple, undoubtedly signifying a special relationship.
The instant they saw the purple orchid, all the staff members in the exhibition hall went “wow.”
Yun Yuwan treated people sincerely, so the looks she received from everyone were filled with blessing, happy for her.
The purple orchid’s floral language means ‘I love you.'”
It’s the most straightforward expression of love among all flowers.
No beating around the bush, just clear and blunt, no need for guessing — just openly and bluntly saying ‘I love you.’
Even lacking a second meaning, it has just the one message: ‘I love you.’
That’s how much I love you — so much so that I don’t want you to have any ambiguity at all.
There wasn’t a florist present who didn’t understand the meaning of the purple orchid.
Although both yellow and purple orchids are orchids, their meanings and uses are vastly different.
Hearing the teasing, Assistant Zheng was a bit surprised but didn’t think too much of it, simply handing the purple orchid over to her.
Yun Yuwan took the pot, her heart thumping loudly.
Her brother had given her a purple orchid.
Though it was meant as an olive branch, it was so conspicuous that everyone saw it.
Actually, it would have been better to give it to her privately, there was no need for this public display.
It was just too direct.
Her heart filled with rosy bubbles.
Her brother didn’t even send a flower symbolizing a mysterious love, a secret crush, or a first love to be more subtle — he went straight for the purple orchid.
How could she brazenly put that on display?
Her brother was so naughty.
After Assistant Zheng left.
The crowd in the exhibition hall started teasing Yun Yuwan:
“Tsk tsk, looks like your boyfriend is very straightforward, huh?”
“It’s just flowers? No gift?”
She thought of something and replied shyly, “He already gave me a very precious gift recently.”
Someone asked, “What was it?”
She admitted embarrassingly, “The necklace that won first place in this year’s jewelry design competition in the United States.”
Manon beside her exclaimed, “My goodness, your boyfriend must be a banker, he’s so rich.”
But she didn’t expect Yun Yuwan to lower her head, hugging the flowers, her heart filled with sweetness, “He indeed owns a bank.”
No one in the exhibition hall had expected it to be true — another wave of surprise, as the white, rich, and beautiful’s partner turned out to be a tycoon.
Yun Yuwan had already started thinking about how to respond to Wen Yangzhi.
The best response to ‘I love you,’ of course, is ‘I love you too.’
What do you think?
