Chapter 31: Chapter 31 Reply Chapter 31: Chapter 31 Reply Editor: Larbre Studio Lin Luor extended the handle of her suitcase and walked into the largest hospital in the city.
The vast hallway echoed with her solitary footsteps. Before long, she entered an elevator and pressed the button for the seventh floor. Slowly, the elevator doors closed and began to ascend.
In no time, the elevator reached the seventh floor, Lin Luor exited, trailing the suitcase behind her.
The long corridor was vacant with stark white radiance filling the area.
Arriving at the nurses’ station, she found two female nurses already fast asleep.
Without disturbing them, Lin Luor turned right and continued walking to the inside. Shortly after, she arrived at the door of a patient room and stopped.
Quietly, she pushed her suitcase to the side of the door. She pulled several weird faces, as if trying to hide the gloomy expression on her face. Finally, she put on a joyful look, opened the door to the patient room and slipped inside.
In this patient room, a middle-aged woman was lying asleep on the hospital bed, surrounded by fruits. The other two beds were unoccupied.
The room was dimly lit by a sleep lamp. Lin Luor sat next to her mother’s bed. Looking at her sickly mother, Lin Luor felt a sharp pain in her heart.
Whenever she saw such a sight, Lin Luor was overwhelmed with a fierce desire to earn a lot of money quickly and wipe out all worries.
However, how could a student possibly earn so much money…
With almost no viable paths left, her only option now seemed to be “Celestial World”. As the game had established a channel for exchanging in-game currency for real money, it provided hope to many people.
The woman on the bed seemed to sense someone’s presence; she moaned painfully, shifted a bit, and then opened her tightly shut eyes.
“Homer… why did you come?” The mother was somewhat surprised. She bore a resemblance to Lin Luor and it was evident she was a great beauty in her youth.
“I missed you. Binhai city is not far from here. It only takes an hour by super maglev train,” Lin Luor said, picking up an apple and starting to peel it.
“It’s so late, there must be something you want to tell me, right?” Mother Lin saw through her daughter’s intentions at a single glance.
Lin Luor was silent for a moment, then nodded. “Mom, I’ve decided. I don’t want to go to college.”
Mother Lin opened her eyes wide in surprise. “Why? You’re attending a prestigious college.”
“What’s so great about a prestigious college? There are many people who can’t find their dream jobs after graduation.”
Mother Lin shook her head, disagreeing with her daughter, but did not voice her dissent. Instead, she asked the crucial question, “So, have you found a stable job?”
Lin Luor nodded. “Yes.” She handed the peeled apple to her mother.
“I’m not hungry. You eat it. What kind of job is it?”
“A game…”
“Celestial World?” Mother Lin seemed surprised to know about the game.
“Yes, many of my classmates are playing this game. It’s very unique. It is revolutionary and can turn our world upside down very soon.”
“Turn the world upside down?”
“Yes, it’s hard to explain in detail at the moment. That’s why I’m here, to let you know about my decision. We understand our family’s situation best. I don’t have the heart to continue studying anymore, Mom. I don’t want to miss this opportunity.”
The sallow face of Mother Lin looked at her daughter with sympathy. She knew deep down that her own medical expenses were the heaviest burden on her daughter.
“Where will you be working?”
“In far-off Beijing. A boss is hiring there; I have passed the interview. My salary will be at least… well, over 10,000 I guess.” Lin Luor was not exactly sure how much Chu You would offer her, but according to what Chu You had said before, her monthly salary would not be less than 10,000 yuan.
“Homer, you have never lied to your mother. Is what you’re saying true?” Mother Lin seemed worried her daughter might resort to questionable methods under the pretext of the situation.
Lin Luor nodded. “It’s true, otherwise I wouldn’t have come to talk about this.”
In Mother Lin’s eyes, her daughter was a very sensible child who seldom troubled her with any extra worries. However, the graveness of her current situation made Mother Lin more cautious.
“Which company is it?”
Recalling what Chu You had told her about his company, Lin Luor mentioned the company name…
“This… is indeed quite a big company.”
“So, Mom, does that mean you agree?” Lin Luor took a small bite of the apple.
Instead of replying right away, Mother Lin fell silent, sighing softly after a while.
“Well then, Mom. I will let my boss know right now. He’s still waiting for my confirmation in the game. I will spend the night with you, and probably leave for Beijing tomorrow.” Lin Luor said, strolling to the door to fetch her suitcase. She opened it and took out a game helmet.
“Is this the game helmet for Celestial World?” Looking at Lin Luor fumbling with a sci-fi styled helmet, Mother Lin appeared astonished.
After plugging in the power cord, Lin Luor leaned on the spare bed next to hers, “Yes, Mom, you go ahead and sleep. I’m logging into the game.” She said, donning the already activated game helmet.
…
Chu You had finished all the honey he had, and the experience he gained from it was just enough for him to level up to level 9, leaving him only one level away from 10. He would probably be the first player to reach a second tier of profession in Celestial World. Thinking of this, Chu You couldn’t help but feel excited. The honor of being the first player to reach the second tier of profession would belong to him.
Looking at his own Red Name State status, Chu You believed that it should disappear when he leveled up to level 10.
Even though he thought so, Chu You didn’t act. He stayed in the location where he killed Zhao Feiyan, because he was waiting for someone.
Within a short while, a player appeared on his screen with a few monsters following behind him. This player was the one Chu You had been waiting for. It was the Killing Commander.
Chu You immediately went over to support him. He successfully drew the monsters’ attention to himself and started attacking them.
Looking at his boss who had a very tall figure and was enveloped in red smoke, Killing Commander couldn’t resist being amazed. His boss was really awesome. He was only one level away from changing his vocation. How on earth did he level up so fast? Although Killing Commander had only just started playing this game, he had done a lot of research on this game which was hailed as “The Second World” and knew that leveling up in this game was very difficult.
After settling the three level-7 monsters, Chu You went to Killing Commander’s side, “You did a good job, I’m really pleased. You managed to go into level 7 area even at level 0.”
“Haha, thanks for the praise boss, I would have been dead without your help.” Even the ambitious Killing Commander, uncharacteristically began to compliment Chu You when he spoke to him.
Chu You waved his hand and sent a trade request to Killing Commander, “I have a lot of equipment here. You can take them all. Equip yourself with the ones that you find fitting and sell all the unnecessary ones. Oh, and don’t sell the Divine Level Milk Mother’s equipment.”
After the trade was completed, Chu You’s backpack space suddenly became much more spacious.
“Boss, why did you give me 10,000 game coins?” Killing Commander saw that Chu You had not only left the equipment to him, but also given him 10,000 game coins.
“I will give you a set of coordinates. After reaching level 6, go to the Beehive to hunt some monsters…” Chu You explained to Killing Commander about a quest he knew regarding trading honey. “If you do the quest given by the old man there, you can level up twice if you have enough coins.”
To level up twice? And from level 7 to level 9? How much experience would that be? How much time would this save? Killing Commander was once again shocked.
“So, that’s why I recruited people to gather information. To me, information is the primary productivity. The coins needed for the honey trade quest is not a lot. After the 19 people level up to 7, you can distribute the coins to them.” Chu You knew that only by bestowing benefits on others, would he get them to follow him and develop loyalty towards him.
“Thank you, boss.” Killing Commander felt touched.
“Alright, you can go back now.”
Seeing that the other party had used the Town return scroll, Chu You shouldered his weapon and ran deeper into the wilds, aiming to reach level 10 as fast as he could.
Just when he was halfway there, a notification for a new message popped up.
Chu You opened the message tab and found out that Lin Luor had logged in. And at such an odd timing, what was she up to?
“Chu You, I’ve made up my mind.” Lin Luor sounded slightly apprehensive over the voice chat.
“Hmm, go ahead.” Chu You kept his gaze fixed on the road before him, using his peripheral vision to observe his surroundings. His feet did not stop moving as he calmly responded.
“I’ve decided to go to you.”
Upon hearing her words, Chu You felt satisfied. He would soon have a future Divine Level Milk Mother on his side.
“Yes, when will you be coming over?”
“What do you think?”
“I’m okay with it, the sooner the better.”
“Alright, then what’s your address?”
Chu You, now in a level 8 area, gave her his address.
Seeing that the address she was going to was located within a villa, Lin Luor felt a bit uneasy.
“A villa?”
“Is there a problem?” Chu You had a plan in mind for a future place to live, but for the moment, he had put it aside. He decided to focus on strengthening the foundation of his early game play and would deal with issues in real life when he had the time. After all, the villa he was currently living in was not his.
“No, it’s good, I will come over tomorrow.” Lin Luor knew that in a gaming studio, people usually live and eat together, she just felt somewhat uneasy for some reason.
“Yes, are you going to play the game now? I can get someone over and you both can play together.” Chu You was thinking about Killing Commander. If these two strong players joined forces, wouldn’t they be quite efficient?
“No, I’m going to log off now. I just came online to tell you this.”
“Alright then, rest well.” At this moment, Chu You had reached the level 9 monster area.
…
“How was it?” Lin Luor’s mother hadn’t fallen asleep yet. Seeing her daughter take off her gaming helmet, she asked.
“We’ve agreed, I’ll go there tomorrow.”
“It’s a long way from here to Yuanjing. You have to take care of yourself when you’re alone there. Most importantly, don’t let yourself be taken advantage of.”
“Yes, I’m already an adult. Don’t worry, mom.”
With no more worries, Lin Luor can truly throw herself into the game. She couldn’t help but clench her fists under the blanket.
What do you think?
